Central Bank of India in 1911 was the first Indian commercial bank wholly owned and managed by Indians. The establishment of the Bank was the ultimate realization of the dream of Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala, founder of the Bank. Sir Pherozesha Mehta was the first chairman of a true Swadeshi Bank '. In fact, the degree of pride by Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala felt that he proclaimed Central Bank of India as the property of the nation and the country's asset' it. He also added that the Central Bank of India's people live on faith and regarded himself as the people's own bank.
